History - Summer Term

This term in History, Year 6 have begun an exciting new unit all about the Victorian era, building on their prior knowledge from Year 5. Our overarching enquiry question is:

"Was the Victorian era a golden age or a dark time?"

Through this unit, pupils will explore a range of social, economic and cultural changes that occurred during Queen Victoria’s reign. We'll examine how life was different depending on your social class, gender or occupation, and consider how industrial and technological progress impacted people’s everyday lives.

Pupils will develop their skills in enquiry, analysis and critical thinking as they use historical sources and evidence to form their own opinions. By the end of the unit, they will be able to make a supported judgement about whether the Victorian era was more of a golden age or a dark time.

We look forward to sharing more of their historical thinking with you as the term continues! In our first lesson, we discussed what we would like to find out during the unit- this is what we came up with!
