'A true hero is anyone who is intent on making the world a better place for all people.'
Oak Meadow would like to thank all of the children, parents, staff and fabulous visitors who supported our ‘More Heroes Needed!’ week.
Since the build-up began on our Twitter page at the start of May, the children have seen the school transformed into an environment that celebrates the everyday heroes in our community and the qualities they demonstrate in their occupations that we aspire to learn from and replicate in our learning to be the best we can be.
Following a magnificent launch assembly by Mr. Arnold to start the week, we welcomed our wonderful visitors into school. We are so grateful that they gave us a morning of their time to discuss the difference they make in their jobs and the journey they have undertaken in their lives to where they are today. Nurses, police officers, sports coaches, church leaders, ICT specialists and finance experts all spoke so passionately with every class. The impression that they made on our pupils was clear to see and every child was left with a seed of inspiration that will continue to grow while they are with us and beyond.
The next day, the children were excited to learn about the journey each teacher at our school had taken and their hopes and ambitions for the future. The children learned about the importance of resilience, resourcefulness, honour, collaboration and curiosity to achieve the best outcomes and to equip them with outstanding qualities and attributes that every hero needs to make a difference in our community and the wider world.
During the week, every Year group completed a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) project that was presented to the whole school and special visitors in a closing assembly. All of these STEM projects were then used for a real life purpose, as they became the central part of our after school ‘Fun on the Field’ event to raise funds for future learning opportunities and experiences. We were overwhelmed with the attendance and support of our families and the community at the end of such an outstanding week for the school.
A huge thank you to everyone who came along. Your positivity, smiles, laughter and kind words show the outstanding difference we are making working together for our children and that in every Oak Meadow child more heroes have definitely been found!
