Black History Month in Y6

Embracing Black History Month, our English lessons for the month of October were inspired by an influential black figure and their impact on society. Our Year 6 students have delved into the remarkable life of the legendary runner Jesse Owens and his journey from discrimination to Olympic champion. Using independent research skills and writing features, the children produced a detailed Non-Chronological Report on Owens documenting his life, his struggles and his successes. Later, we partnered the children’s amazing writing with their art-work to create a classroom display to honour Owens.
