Year 5 Diwali Celebrations

For our whole school Diwali day, we discussed the reasons why Diwali is celebrated and within which religions this festival is important. We looked at the story of Rama and Sita and how the Diva lamps originated and the importance of light within the story. Within the classrooms, we also looked at Mehndi designs and how this is used within Diwali celebrations and we were given the opportunity to complete our own Mehndi patterns. Before lunch, we had the opportunity to play a game of kabaddi, a contact team sport played between two teams of seven players, originating from India. Whilst in the hall, we also sang our Happy Diwali song.
