To celebrate Black History Month Year Two found out about the marvellous Mary Seacole.
Mary was born in Jamaica in 1805. She was a nurse who risked her life to help soldiers in the Crimean War. She set up the British Hotel to care for wounded soldiers. When she came back from the war she wrote a book all about her adventures. Sadly, people forgot about Mary until the 1970's when her brave acts began to be remembered across Great Britain and the Carribean.
The children in Year Two researched about her life and then wrote her biography. Some children recorded facts about her life too. Mia and Brooke have written up their biographies and they will be on display in school.
